1963 - I saw the 1st Episode of Doctor Who the first time it was broadcast. The Tardis landed in what looked like the stone age and as the door opened there was a shadow of  ? , cue theme music, what a fright and we had to wait until next week to see if it was Neantherdal Man , King Kong or a Monster Man. I think it was a caveman but I'm sure a a Doctor affacianado would be quick in if I'm wrong.

Mid 60's I attended a pantomime at The Old Salford Victoria Theatre starring non other than Charles Hawtrey  from the Carry On Films. Real name was George Frederick Joffre Hartree (1914-1988)

Early 1970's I attended the first Stock Car Racing event at the Albion Dog Track,Salford. The series was fairly short lived as support was lacking and the track was a little small and it never really got off the ground but good fun while it lasted. I still have several of the programmes from those events.

In 1979/80, under coach Roger Millward, Hull KR achieved a famous defeat of neighbours Hull F.C., by a margin of 10-5 in the final of the Challenge Cup, at Wembley in front of 95,000 fans. I remember my first trip   to the Old Wembley Stadium well. As we came out I couldn't understand why a guy was stood there with a big yellow wellie on a pole until I saw loads of little kids running towards it. Good idea matey !

Prime Ministers Question Time 1973 - Harold Wilson and Ted Heath going at it Hammer and Tongues. What a great experience and I even got into the private members restaurant. Cyril Smith made a big point at the time that the MP's were lapping it up on tax payers money. Funny it took another 30+ years before they got caught in the expenses scandal. Nice one Cyril ! (See Cyril Smith under near misses) I got into this privilaged position by winning an essay competition about Social Services courtesy of MP for Bury South Alan Hazlehurst.

1970's Manchester United played Manchester City at Old Trafford Cricket Ground, at Cricket. I cannot remember the exact date but I do remember Bobby Charlton smashing his first ball against the boundary fence with great venom and then being out next ball. Somewhere I have the scorecard filled in so could be one for e bay. Surely that should have been an annual event for Charity.

1982 The Pope visits England. I was in the crowd at Cardiff for the Youth Mass. I was a youth leader at the time as I was over 25 and could only get in as a leader. What a memorable day that was and the BBC camera even zoomed in on our group on 4 separate ocassions. Sadly we only saw it on a rented out video so it was never retrieved. We bought our first VHS player shortly afterwards.

Wednesday, 20 July 1994 The opening Ceremony of the World Cup at Gigg Lane Home of Bury F.C. Surely not, well not Football but Lacrosse. Couldn't resist attending that and bought myself a commemorative tie. Well done Bury, what a scoop.

15th August 2004 - West Indies captain Brian Lara  became the fourth player in Test cricket history to score 10,000 runs. Lara, 35, achieved the remarkable milestone during the Windies' second innings on the fourth day of the third Test at Old Trafford. He was dismissed for 7 shortly afterwards by Andrew Flintoff.

Coronation Street Kidnap Scene - We were sat on a wall outside the location, by coincidence as it was near the Girl Guides place where my daughter went, and several of the cast came past and waved to us including Gail Platt, Eilleen, Sarah and Candice. Not fully sure of specific details as it was a fleeting glance. I did leave my car in a strategic place but it didn't make the final show.

Commonwealth Games - 2002 Manchester We attended the Netball and Hockey where a stick flew into the crowd but missed us because we were no where near it.

2005 Women's European Football Championships. We attended England at City of Manchester Stadium and Finland at Blackpool and watched Germany beat Norway 3-1 in the Final at Ewood Park, Blackburn.

Live Gigs - I've seen loads of Gigs and shows but the memorable ones have to be those involving The Who, The Kinks, Rolling Stones, Queen, Moody Blues, Beach Boys, Everly Brothers, Chuck Berry, Status Quo, Steeleye Span, ELO, Eddy and The Hot Rods, Devo,  Mike Oldfield, War of The Worlds Live, Camel, Cliff Richard with and without The Shadows, Rick Wakeman, Deep Purple, Boyzone, Westlife, Busted, McFly, Green Day, Incubus,  Sha na na, Showaddywaddy, 10.c.c. The Mindbenders, Heinz, Ray Davies, Lordi, Focus, Neil Innes, Joe Brown, Swingle 2, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Renaissance, The Darts, David Essex, GTR, Steve Hackett, Sky, Strife, Bethnal, Tomita, Black Sabbath, Bad News, Jonathon Richman and The Modern Lovers, Stranglers, Buzzcocks, Alan Price, Esperanto, Steve Gibbons Band, Marty Wilde, Kilburn and The High Roads, INXS, The Zutons, Thin Lizzy, Flaming Lips, The Skids, Geri Halliwell, Blue, Tom Paxton, Donovan, Olivia Newton John with Labi Siffre support act, Wings, Albion Band, Fairport Convention, Paul Jones (as Joseph), The Blues Band,Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar twice, Starlight Express, The Sooty Show, Fireman Sam, The Mr Men, Sesame Street, Noddy, Superted (Lucky I had some children to take for these although I did go to the Mr Men without kids - embarrasing or what).

Football Matches - Attended two schoolboy internationals at Wembley, went to the Community Shield between Liverpool and Chelsea at The Millenium Stadium (2006, 2-1) saw England v Germany at Wembley when they lost 2-1, England v Holland at Villa Park (0-0), England v Azerbaijan at St.James' Park, Newcastle (2005 - 4-0)and loads of Manchester United games when Best, Law and Charlton were the key men.
